There was a bomber that was flying overhead  that had a specific target. There was a bomb that was dropped and it went through the starboard side next to cannon one. Going all the way through the ship until it reached the ammunition compartment then detonation causing an even bigger explosion. Many researchers say that if the bomb may have not gone into the ammo compartment the ship may have not sunk so fast.
